At the heart of a new office building in San Mateo, we envisioned a lush courtyard where tenants can pass through and linger. Custom wood benches provide inviting places to sit. Flowing, organic paving connects the suites while offering a soft counterpoint to the building’s strong architectural geometry. The paving edges dissolve into drifts of no-mow fescue and lomandra, anchored by two fine-leaved maples. Agave, acacia, correa, astellia, and philodendron provide additional form and interest in this shade-loving garden. Hardscaping includes Calstone linear pavers in charcoal and black basalt gravel.
