This San Francisco client wanted a backyard that could do both: serve as a relaxed hangout for her teenage kids and a quiet sanctuary for herself. We designed a wide deck with a central staircase that draws you into the garden. Bluestone paving and artificial turf are artfully integrated for both beauty and play, while a cozy nook with a fire feature—doubling as a coffee table—offers a place to unwind. All of it is set within a lush, cottage-style planting scheme that softens the space and creates a sense of retreat, with a subtle nod to old San Francisco.
